Global Industrial Cassava Starch Industry Sees Steady Growth

December 25, 2025

The global industrial cassava starch industry maintains steady growth momentum, driven by robust demand for biodegradable materials and the upgrading of the food industry. The Asia-Pacific region dominates the market with a share of over 75%, led by major producers Thailand and Vietnam. Thailand recently hosted the 7th World Tapioca Conference, aiming to boost annual exports to 7.5 million tons and promote industrial collaboration. Meanwhile, African regions are accelerating capacity expansion, and leading enterprises such as COFCO and AGRANA are actively deploying integrated industrial chains and advanced processing technologies to enhance competitiveness.

Notably, regional trade and cooperation have been further strengthened with the support of infrastructure upgrades. The China-Laos Railway, a key part of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, has significantly shortened the logistics time for cassava starch from Laos to southwest China, spurring the establishment of an ASEAN cassava starch distribution center in Chongqing and deepening the integrated industrial chain cooperation between China and Southeast Asian countries. Meanwhile, major producing countries are stepping up policy support for high-value-added product development, with Thailand promoting the R&D of cassava-based cat litter and environmentally friendly tableware, and African nations encouraging the use of cassava powder as a wheat substitute in food processing to boost domestic industry development.
